Kristin Fung -
Dorothy
Kristin (LFA - Grade 12) writes:
Besides musical theatre, I love gummi bears, Sergio Mendes, and pink (the
colour, not the singer). But, instead of telling you all about myself, I'll let you be the
judge when you watch me perform. Being onstage is where I truly feel at home.
Last year, I played Robin in Godspell, and I am delighted to be back to
undergo another life-changing experience. Thank you Mommy, for letting me go
through with this; Ms. Herb, for your moral support; Dinosaur, for making it all
worthwhile; Tom, for teaching me what I need to know; and my dearest fellow
Wizzers for bringing in the sun ... even when it was raining outside. "I can feel
the coolness in the air, but I'm still warm." - Be a Lion

Vicente "Vince" Caparas - Scarecrow
YES! Finally back onstage! Senior student Vinny Caparas (VC - Grade 12)
is proud and excited to cap off his years at VC with his second musical
play, "The Wiz". Vince made his stage debut in last year's "Godspell", in
which he played the roles of "John the Baptist" and "Jeffrey". An avid
musician, Vince is usually seen annoying his classmates and teachers with
his constant singing and dancing in the school halls, cafeteria, and
courtyard. Praying that this will not be his last production, Vince hopes
to continue his musical career in the "real world". Thanks go out to his
family, friends, and teachers who were all very supportive and understanding
in the hectic and sometimes crazy weeks leading up to performance week.
Special thanks to the directors, cast, chorus, and crew of "The Wiz".
"THANK YOU WORLD!"

Cary McCaffery - Tin Man
Cary (VC - Grade 10) has been involved with and has played in various
musicals for the last five or six years of his life. He also plays trombone
for the school Concert and Jazz Bands, under the direction of Larry Olson.
He likes to play sports, including soccer, golf, and hacky-sacking. Cary
enjoys hanging out with friends, the VC crew, fellow "GSGDr's", and fellow
Wizzers.

|
James Cleary - Lion
"Oh no!" Hopeful graduate James Cleary (VC - Grade 12) is currently
undertaking the daunting task of a second musical theatre performance.
Approaching a level of defcon one, he enjoys venting his energies in
dramatic and athletic activities whenever possible. Although his football
endeavours have ceased, and the conclusion of The Wiz will also bring about
the end of his musical career, James, in a surprise move, has decided to
focus on an academic future. He would like to thank everyone for their
support and love, whether it be throwing around a football, or telling him
to do his homework. Keep the RUCKUS alive!!!

|
Patrick Dolan - The Wiz
The Wiz is the first VC musical production Patrick Dolan (VC -
Grade 12) has been involved in. However, his past
experience includes the role of The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat. Throughout his time at VC he has played
in both the Concert and Jazz Bands. He would like to thank all of the
cast in The Wiz for the constant support, especially Vince Caparas for
having the faith to urge him onward, and Kristin Fung for always being
there. He'd like to express his gratitude towards Mr. Santarossa, Ms.
Herb, the costume team, and the rest of the squad.

Jenice Cruz -
Addaperle
HELLO WORLD! Jenice (LFA - Grade 12) is proud to be a part of the Wiz family. She made her
debut in last year's SOOC as a "Jenice Me? No! Jenice You!" dancer in
association with The Ian Graham Movement. She also played various roles in
St. Andrew's Elementary School's plays. YAY! Many *muah*'s go to Ms. Herb,
Mr. Santarossa (I'm OK!), Mr. Arntzen, and Mr. Canil. I love my family for
putting up with me! Thanks to God and Jo (I couldn't have done this without
you). Kris, Beans, Cary and James are neat! More thanks to THE CAST, THE
BAND, THE CREW, Face-face, Nat, Bang, Chrispy, Wender, Ash, Kyme, everything
and everyone! Woo hoo! HI AINGE!

Josette Jorge -
Evillene
I'm ready for my close up, Mr. Cameraman, sir... Having a tremendous passion
for the stage, Josette Jorge (LFA - Grade 12) is thrilled to be a part of
The Wiz as "dA WiCk'd WiTcH oF dA wEsTsIdE." This being her third year
performing with Vancouver College, Jo made her debut as Rizzo in SOC 99's
Grease, and strutted her stuff as Sonia in last year's Godspell ("DA DA
DA DA DA"). Last August, Jo trained at "Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance", a musical
theatre summer program, as Vixie Galoo. Other than singing, acting, and
dancing, Jo is an active member of LFA's student council as school
president, teaches piano (only $10 an hour, kids!), and mooches lunch off Jen
Tong. Big hugs and kisses go to Ms. Herb and Mr. Santarossa for putting up
with her for all these years. Jo thanks her family, friends, instant kim
chi noodles, and she'd like to thank the academy...

Julita Sienkiewicz -
Glinda
Julita (LFA - Grade 9) played the part of "Peggy" in last year's musical,
Godspell, and enjoys singing and dancing very much. She attended a
drama and hip-hop/dance class while in elementary school to help develop her
skills. Her aspiration is to become a pediatrician. Julita's other hobbies
include swimming, reading and having fun.

|
Enrico Cunanan - Uncle Henry,
Crow
Rico (VC - Grade 11) has had experience performing in the musical
production of the King and I and has sung at various community
events, including the 1999 SOC and Godspell in 2000. Rico enjoys
playing basketball excessively and being unproductive while listening to his
own blend of breakbeats and nature noises. He aspires to be the next Lionel
Ritchie, but will settle with replacing LaToya Jackson on the Psychic
Network.

|
Jordan Lazaruk - Lord
High Underling, Royal Gatekeeper
A seasoned veteran of Godspell, Jordan (VC - Grade 10) has seen his fair
share of musical theatre. As the founder of SWC Studios and co-founder of
J2, as well as having experience on
the film scene and a stint with the CWF, Jordan is very familiar with the
performing scene. He enjoys fencing (#4!), football (#20!), kissing feet
(#3!), and Track (#1!). You'll catch him this year as "Da LHU oF Da
WeStSiDe WiTcH." He hopes one day to play Tony from West Side
Story or the Phantom from Phantom of the Opera, re-create the
CWF, join the Eagles, or become the only good white running back in the NFL.

The Production Team
|
Jim Canil - Producer
Mr. Canil has been teaching at Vancouver College since 1984 and has
always been actively involved in extra-curricular activities such as this.
This is Mr. Canil's eleventh year as producer of Sharing Our Students'
Creativity (SOC.) His abilities as producer as well as father of one of The
Wiz's performers were greatly appreciated! We're happy to be putting on such
a great show for the entire Vancouver College community! Special thanks go
to our generous sponsors!
|
|
Antonio Santarossa - Director
Mr. Santarossa is glad to be back for yet another VC production at our
'home' court, the JCC. He would like to thank the entire cast, especially
all those who came back from last year's show ... for "fishing techniques" ... sorry for the lecture
everyone ... are you really OK, Jenice? ... where's your brush, Lucho? ...
don't fall so hard, Vinny ... shut up Ryan ... I need more lines! ... Thanks
Nancy, Tom, Jim, Bro O, and my VC chauffeurs ... He would like to
re-introduce himself to his family as soon as this is all over ... or else,
says his wife. Oh yeah, in his spare time, Mr. Santarossa teaches Middle
School French and Drama at Vancouver College.

|
Nancy Herb - Choreographer
Thanks to all whose hard work, time, and effort has made the Wiz journey so
rewarding. Without your efforts - cast, crew, Antonio, Mr. Canil, Lilian,
Bernadette, Mrs. Lazaruk, Tom, Br. O'Loughlin - The Wiz wouldn't be
as magical as it is. God bless you all! It's been a pleasure! |
|
Tom Arntzen - Musical Director
Mr. Arntzen is a veteran performer of stage and radio. He has performed
in musical theatre in leading roles in Vancouver and has musically directed
several productions at the Arts Club Theatre. Tom has several bands that
perform locally. We are thankful for Mr. Arntzen's musical expertise and
guidance in our production of The Wiz.
