Inspired by the vision of Blessed Edmund Rice, Vancouver College strives to instill in young men a spirit of excellence, integrity, and pride in everything they do. We are looking at the Essential Elements to which we are committed and through which we are able to prepare our students for a life dedicated to achievement, leadership, and service to church and community.

May we please have15 minutes of your time? We ask that you please complete an online survey to let us know how we are doing in terms of how closely we are living out the Essential Elements at Vancouver College. We need your response by Friday, June 25, 2010.

The information collected will allow us to set direction for the future. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Double Your Gift of Education (valid until June 30th) (posted May 26, 2010)
In the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice, Vancouver College has never turned a boy away for financial reasons. Each year, over 10% of our students are offered a bursary through the generosity of the greater Vancouver College community. Each student’s experience at our school is enhanced because of the diversity and dynamics of our student body.

On April 27th, Mr. Peter Bull announced that his family will match dollar for dollar up to ten bursaries of $3,500 per student annually for the next five years commencing September 2010.

Mr. Bull’s generous matching offer is available until June 30th, 2010 only, and so we ask you to please consider making a five-year pledge to the bursary fund at this time to double your gift of education. All gifts are 100% tax deductible and will go towards helping educate students who may not otherwise be able to attend Vancouver College.

Please complete and return the pledge form to Mr. McFarland before June 30.  We hope we can count on your support of our faith and learning community.  Thank you.

Reminder re Traffic and Parking Guidelines (posted Nov. 23, 2009)
Thanks you to the many parents who have been following our School’s “Traffic Guidelines”.  We have noticed lately though, that we have parents pulling in to the staff parking lot to drop off students and as this is a very busy place are most concerned with student safety.  Please drop off you sons in their designated area.  For more detailed information on traffic and parking, please access the Traffic Guidelines letter.

Before and After School Supervision (posted October 28, 2009)
Thank you for not dropping your sons off before 7:00 am and ensuring that they are picked up before 5:00 pm unless they are involved in a teacher-supervised activity. The cafeteria is the only area on campus that is supervised before school (i.e. 7:00 - 8:00 am) and after school (i.e. 3:30 - 5:00 pm). More information on this policy can be found on page 31 of the Parent Handbook under “Safety of Persons.” This new policy has helped us to better ensure the safety of all of our students.

Senior Library Birthday Book Club (posted October 7, 2009)
Celebrate your son’s birthday in a special way by donating a book to the VC Senior library in his honour.Complete the form, send us a cheque for $20, and we will purchase a book for the library in your child’s name. On (or close to) his birthday, we will present it in class.

Your child will be the first to borrow the book and it will be inscribed with the date and name as a reminder of your generous support. In later years, the boys love to come across a book that was once donated to celebrate their birthday.
