The Vancouver College Pro-Life Club was established to address the issues of pro-life in a more holistic way for the student at VC. Many of the students' concerns and questions are addressed through the teacher facilitators, Jim Canil and Donna Ameerali.

The Pro-Life Club allows the students to become pro-active through fundraising activities and contribution to "The Doors Open", "Sisters of Charity", and the Youth Fund. The Youth Fund, operated together with the Archdiocesan Office of Life and Family, is a trust fund to which all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese contribute for the following purposes:
  • Providing a one-time financial support to unwed mothers.
  • Helping families who are financially burdened and expecting a new baby.
Since 1990, on the first Sunday of October, VC's Pro-Life Club hosts the annual "Youth 4 Life Day" which is attended by over 400 youths from different schools throughout the Lower Mainland. Various presenters speak on pro-life issues. Participants pray the rosary as a group, followed by a pro-life march, and the event closes with a social gathering where youth have the opportunity to interact with others who share the same values and beliefs.

The Reverence for Life Conference is organized annually by Catholic teachers from the different schools in the Archdiocese. This year, Vancouver College is proud to be the host school for this important event. The theme this year is "Living our Faith Heroes in Action" with Mark Houck and Fr. John Horgan as key speakers. Fr. Horgan, VC's Chaplain, will be presenting on pro-life Saints, our Heroes in Action.

Through 50/50 Draws, sales of Christmas cards and other fundraising activities, we are able to raise money to support various pro-life organizations in the Archdiocese. During the month of December, we place a Christmas tree near the Main Office and collect presents for poor children; we also set up a Nativity scene in the courtyard.

The Pro-Life Club meets monthly. To participate, please contact Mr. Jim Canil at jcanil@vc.bc.ca
